The Workflowy app for iOS presents a tool designed to create nested lists in an efficient and neat manner. The most striking feature of the program is the way it has put together efficiency and simplicity to deliver a promising performance. To access the functionality of this sleek outliner you need to register an account with Workflowy that is available in a basic version for free and a premium one for $49per annum. The mere simplicity of its efficient functioning is a highly valued positive in itself.
Of course it has a web companion app that goes by the same name and all the notes or lists that you make are auto synchronized between the online and offline versions thereby providing a safe access to it from a variety of devices.
The simplicity is the key again. The basic typing is simple and pretty similar to any text typing on i-phone interface; the cursor can be maneuvered to desired points simply by tapping or dragging using the fingers.
The lists are formed in a bullet formation that simplifies the utility further; you can sub lists right under the main lists; and you can mark any list or sublist complete when the utility is over, just by clicking on it and then tapping a green ‘Complete’ button on the top of the screen.
Another handy feature is in form of two tiny arrows at the top that help to position the bullet form subtext with respect to its parent or main body text. You can use them to draw the bullets outward in sync with the main txt or further inward to appear as different piece altogether.
The web companion app boasts of a few extra features like the option to delete any item by holding it and generating a option menu right adjacent to it; moreover, you can also shift the position of the elements in list by dragging them up or down.
A slight issue is regarding the interface where the buttons appear cluttered or close so as creating a problem for bigger fingers to navigate through the screen.
A calendar view with to-do list could be appreciated as a utility addition and also there is no predefined specific to assign dates to the lists or notes.
Also the limitations on the free version seem a little too stringent with just an allowance of 500 lists per month, no extra themes and the heart break; no dropbox utility.
